Ultimate Fighting Championship Clementi vs Johnson
I have a good friend who is in love with Mixed Martial Arts. He introduced me to the sport by watching televised fights. Ah- the power of Pay-Per-View. You can’t help but to be drawn in to the sport with all the blood and brutality. It’s great! What’s even better is seeing how the passionate fans invest in the sport even during a recession.
The L.A. Times reports from Las Vegas that Ultimate Fighting Championship 100 is underway. UFC hits a huge milestone this weekend when they present their 100th fight card. But this Las Vegas-based company does more than just entertain. UFC is a huge cash cow for the city.
Mandalay Bay is sold out this weekend, and the Strip will be buzzing for the summer’s biggest event in Las Vegas.
UFC brings in an estimated $400 million a year to the local economy, making these fights a “fistful of dollars.”
The UFC is one of the fastest growing spectator sports in the world.
“It’s a huge event, as far as the fights are great, people love it, and everybody leaves buzzing after UFC 100,” said UFC President Dana White.
UFC President Dana White expects this to be the fourth Pay-Per-View event in its history to reach 1 million sales. A record number of credentialed reporters are documenting the event.
